EXPLORING THE HIDDEN PARADISE OF FROZEN WATERFALLS UP NORTH

Come to Senja island to climd ice straight up from the sea :-) Lots of ice climbing routes close to the road and sea in a variety of levels. Stay at Senja Lodge where it is close drive to all the climbing spots.

 

WHERE: Senja island in North Norway. Between the city of Tromsø and Narvik. Nearest airport is Bardufoss (www.norwegian.no).

 

Senja island offers very nice ice climbing in a fantastic area with high peaks and deep fjords around the waterfalls. Here you can find both small easy ice climbs, and long serious climbs that goes all the way up from the fjord to the top of a peak. Here you also find lots of unclimbed waterfalls for those who wants to do some new routes. Most of the ice climbing is also easy accessible close to the roads around the outer part of Senja island.

 

WHEN: Season is November to beginning of April.

 

FOR WHO: People with passion for climbing and who wants to climb in a different exotic part of the world. Around the arctic mountains above the fjords and sea. Routes for all ice climbers - from expert to beginners.

 

WHERE TO STAY: Stay at Senja Lodge where it is close drive to all the climbing spots.

 

PRICE: 350,- NOK per persons per night. The price includes beds (without linen). You bring your own sleeping bags/or linen. You buy your own food (it is a shop close to the lodge). Food can be arranged on request.

ISELVDALEN
Iselvdalen is located in the middle of the municipality of Målselv. It is a deep canyon that offers nice ice climbing in variety of difficulties.

 


TAMOKDALEN
Tamokdalen is a wide valley located in the higher land towards the border to Sweden and Finland. Here you find lots of ice early in the season, and it have a lot of nice ice climbing along the road through the valley.
In Tamokdalen the weather is more stable and dry. So it is often good conditions when it is less good in lower areas.
In Tamokdalen you find a lot of good ice climbing in variety of length and difficulties that is easy accessed from the road.

 

SØRDALEN – BARDU
Sørdalen and Bardujord is a valley in the municipality of Bardu. The valley stretches in towards the border to Sweden. Here you find waterfalls freezing to good ice early in the season. It is lots of frozen waterfalls in the whole valley and the ice is easy accessible from the roads in the valley. And you can find lots of long and serious ice climbs here. The most famous ice climb is Skredbekken that is a hole day climb in a fantastic scenery.

SJØVEGAN – SALANGEN
Sjøvegan is a small town in the municipality of Salangen south in the county of Troms. Just outside the town you find some nice ice climbing very accessible. Here there are both some easy climbing and one serious climb with some difficulties. It is also a bolted drytooling crag here.

 

SPANSDALEN
Spansdalen is the real ice mecca south in the county of Troms. Here is a valley full of ice climbing. Everything is rely accessible from the road in the valley, and you have ice climbing both for beginners and experts. The most famous ice climb is Henrikkefossen that is a wide long vertical climb. In Spansdalen there are often early ice, and it is stable for a long season.

ABISKO
Abisko is a small village in the north of Sweden where you can find some good ice climbing very early in the season. It is easy accessible from the road of E10 between Narvik and Kiruna, and it is ice climbs in a variety of difficulties. The area is in the high mountain area of Sweden so it is a stable cold temperature.
